On Monday, February 20, 2017, a meeting took place, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, between Ms. Jimena Leiva Roech, executive from the Think Tank “International Peace Institute” (IPI), and Ms. Εleni Nikolaidou, Director of YDAS – 3 Directorate for Geographical Policy & Strategic Planning. The meeting was attended on behalf of the General Secretariat of the Government by Mr. Nikos Trantas, Head of the Office of Coordination, Institutional, International and European Affairs and Dr. Alexandros Kailis, Special Advisor of this Office and on behalf of the Ministry of Environment and Energy by Mr. Nikos Mavrakis and Ms. Maria Papaioannou, executives from the Directorate of International and European Activities.
The purpose of this meeting was to inform IPI on the progress of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Greece, in the framework of achieving the 2030 Agenda. The IPI informed about its intention to prepare a report on the challenges and opportunities of SDGs in Europe, with a focus on Greece. Relevant reports will also be prepared for other geographical regions. The report for Greece will be presented at the “Concordia Europe Summit” to be held in Athens on the 6th and 7th of June and at the Concordia Annual Summit in New York, between the 18th and 19th of September. The report will also be presented in the margins of the UN High-Level General Assembly. The Concordia Europe Summit in Athens will focus on the achievement of the SGDs, on the future of Europe, on the political economy of the European Union and on ways to address the refugee crisis.
