Joint Statement by the OECD Development Assistance Committee on the Covid-19 crisis

09/04/2020 – Members of the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) today issued a statement expressing their support for the response by UN agencies, multilateral development banks and civil society to the global Covid-19 crisis, and welcoming calls by G20 and G7 leaders to focus on the impact on developing countries.

The statement notes the importance of Official Development Assistance (ODA) as a means to support national responses to the Covid-19 crisis and recognises that the global response will require sustained action by many actors to address the immediate public health and humanitarian crisis, as well as simultaneous support for economic, environmental and social recovery and resilience.

In the statement, the DAC members agree to “strive to protect ODA budgets, encourage other financial flows to support governments and communities in partner countries, and invite other development cooperation partners to do the same.” They agree to “endeavour to support Least Developed Countries and other countries with specific needs via a coherent and coordinated humanitarian-development-peace response.”
