


On January 28, 2025, an Info day (the second of its kind) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with more than 100 participants on emerging opportunities for the participation of the Greek private sector in the EU’s “Global Gateway” Strategy, which aims to mobilize investments of up to 300 billion Euros in developing countries, by 2027.
The Secretary General for International Economic Relations, Mr. Dimitris Skalkos, delivered an opening address, underlining, among other things, the importance of the “Global Gateway” Strategy in stimulating the extroversion of Greek businesses and the value of adopting a collaborative approach to better utilize the Strategy.
Accordingly, EIB Vice-President, Mr. Yannis Tsakiris, referred to the EIB’s significant contribution to the implementation of the Strategy and to the prospects for cooperation with Greek businesses.
During his introductory speech, Hellenic Aid Director-General Mr. Dimitris Karamitsos-Tziras referred to the methodical (through a relevant Roadmap) completion of the process of establishing the “Team Greece” as the working group, which is expected to play an important role in guiding and assisting Greek businesses in the context of the implementation of the Strategy.
On his part, the Head of the Private Sector Engagement Unit of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), Mr. Rigo Belpaire, underlined the importance of attracting private investment and taking on a supporting role from EU Member States, through “National Teams”, such as “Team Greece”.



In the subsequent panel discussion, the following speakers from EIB Global and Export Credit Greece, as well as from Greek private companies (Copelouzos Group, Metlen Energy and Metals, Athens Medical Group) involved in the implementation of approved “flagship projects” of the Strategy, took part:
–Ms. Ioanna-Victoria Kyritsi, Head of Division, Strategy and Business Development, EIB Global,
–Mr. Ioannis C. Karydas, Chief Executive Officer, Renewables and Energy Storage, Copelouzos Group,
–Ms. Xenia Bredima, Investment Director, Mergers and Acquisitions General Division, Metlen Energy & Metals,
–Mr. Pavlos Efthymiou, Executive Director, Athens Medical Group and
–Ms. Antonia Pediaditaki, executive, Legal Services, Compliance and International Relations General Division, Export Credit Greece SA.
This was followed by a presentation by Mr. Belpaire on ways for Greek companies to participate in Global Gateway Strategy initiatives, with reference to the usefulness of their eventual participation in relevant EU business fora.
The relevant subsequent discussion was moderated by Hellenic Aid Deputy Director-General, Ms. Eleni Nikolaidou, who stressed, among other things, that the “Team Greece” working group will support public-private partnerships within the framework of “Global Gateway”.
Next, thematic (sectoral) presentations were made by the following executives of the European Commission (DG INTPA):
–Mr. Sergio Oliete, in the area of rail, road, maritime and air transport and urban infrastructure, with reference also to relevant technical assistance,
–Mr. Anastasios Chrysochoou, on climate change and sustainable energy,
–Mr. George Grapsas, regarding transport in regional and multi-country programmes in Africa,
–Ms. Jessica Schroeder, in the field of education and
–Mr. Zakaria Sbitri, regarding the health sector, with reference to the MAV+ initiative for the production and distribution of vaccines and medicines in Africa.
The Info day concluded with a technical workshop, moderated by the Head of the EIB Office in Greece, Ms. Marianna Nathanail (with the participation of Ms. Ioanna-Victoria Kyritsi and Ms. Irini Koutra), on practical possibilities for technical and financial support to Greek enterprises by EIB Global, in the context of the “Global Gateway” Strategy.
