SEE 2030: Dialogue on Insurance Coverage Against Disasters (Istanbul, December 3, 2024)

On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the first regional meeting on insurance coverage against disasters took place in Istanbul, bringing together representatives of insurance associations and regulatory authorities from countries in Southeastern Europe. The meeting was organized by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) within the framework of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).

The meeting was held as part of the implementation of the SEE 2030 Strategy, which, among other goals, aims to enhance the region’s preparedness against natural disasters, including the involvement of the private sector. Additionally, the SEE 2030 Strategy envisages strengthening the expertise of domestic financial institutions in providing insurance and financial services.

The purpose of the meeting was to exchange experiences and best practices regarding insurance coverage systems, as well as to explore interest in creating a regional cooperation network. This network would consist of representatives from insurance companies, as well as supervisory and regulatory bodies, with the aim of deepening cooperation and improving risk management systems in Southeastern European countries.

On behalf of Greece, participants included Ms. Elina Papaspyropoulou, Director General of the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies, and Ms. Theodora Antonakaki, Director of the Climate Change and Sustainability Center at the Bank of Greece. Representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Konstantina Doulavera (Secretary for Economic and Commercial Affairs) of the Z3 Directorate for Development Cooperation Policy also participated in the meeting.
