Greek contribution to the World Food Program (WFP) to address the consequences of hurricane “Melissa” in Jamaica

On 28.10.2025, Hurricane Melissa (Category 5 storm) hit the southwestern coast of Jamaica, causing major destruction and extensive damage including in rural and tourist areas. Economic losses are estimated at 28–32% of 2024 GDP, with a short-term reduction in production of 8–13%. A total of 1.6 million people have been affected, more than 100,000 homes have been destroyed and 120,000 buildings have been severely damaged. According to estimates by the World Food Program (WFP) in early 2026, 359,000 people were in need of food assistance.

In this context, Greece allocated the amount of 50,000 euros as a contribution to the actions of WFP to address the food crisis in Jamaica.
