Conference in Honor of Professor Kypros Nicolaides, Director of the Fetal Medicine Foundation - Recognition of His Contribution to Fetal Medicine in North Macedonia (May 19, 2025)

The Fetal Medicine Unit at the University Gynecology Clinic in Skopje, in collaboration with the Medical Faculty of the University of Skopje, organized a conference on May 19, 2025, in honor of Professor Kypros Nicolaides. The event was held in light of the decision by the Saints Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje to confer upon him the title of Honorary Professor. The official ceremony is expected to take place at a later date at the University.

The Fetal Medicine Unit was established under the Fetal Medicine Programme 2022-2025, implemented by the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the “Fetal Medicine Foundation.” The trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (between the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health of North Macedonia, and the “Fetal Medicine Foundation”) was completed on December 9, 2022, with the signature of the Minister of Health of North Macedonia, Dr. Bekim Sali.

The conference was attended by numerous scientists from the specific field of medicine, and Professor Nicolaides’ contribution to the development of fetal-maternal medicine in North Macedonia was warmly acknowledged. Among the participants were professors from the medical schools of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the University of Ioannina, where training seminars will be conducted. Τhe Ambassador of Greece to Skopje, Ms. Sofia Filippidou, delivered a greeting at the conference, highlighting the visionary and humanitarian dimension of Professor Nicolaides’ work.

The Director of the Fetal Medicine Unit, Ms. Viktoria Gjovanovska, stated that this Clinic constitutes the central maternity hospital as well as the largest and most modern center for diagnosing pathological conditions in pregnant women in the country. The President of the Fetal Medicine Association of North Macedonia, Ms. Ana Daneva-Markova, expressed hope that, together with Professor Kypros Nicolaides, with whom they initiated this program, they will continue the development and improvement of fetal medicine in the country in the future.
