Greece has contributed €100,000 to the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) for 2025, continuing the support it has provided in recent years (2023 and 2024). CERF, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, is a critical mechanism for providing rapid and effective assistance in humanitarian crises worldwide, ranging from natural disasters and conflicts to underfunded and “forgotten” emergencies, such as those in the Sahel, the Central African Republic, and Haiti.
The Fund provides significant resources for addressing urgent situations; however, needs continuously exceed the available funding. In 2024, CERF allocated $200 million for humanitarian actions, while also launching a dedicated funding framework for climate-related initiatives, with over $100 million already committed to such interventions.
Greece’s contribution highlights the country’s commitment to supporting the global humanitarian effort and helping ensure timely responses to crises, including those related to the impacts of climate change.
