Regional Meeting SEE 2030: Disaster Risk Insurance Dialogue (Istanbul, December 3, 2024)

Greece, along with 12 other economies[1], has been a member of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) since 1996. Within this framework, the “SEE 2030” Strategy was adopted (Antalya Summit, June 12, 2021), outlining priority areas and actions with specific goals at national and regional levels for achieving sustainable development, in line with the United Nations’ “2030 Agenda”. The Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), the executive arm of the SEECP, plays a coordinating role in the implementation of the “SEE 2030” Strategy.

In the wake of recent natural disasters in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as previous similar events in the Southeastern Europe region, the RCC Secretariat intends to organize the first regional dialogue on disaster risk insurance (Disasters Risk Insurance Dialogue) on December 3, 2024, in Istanbul. This event will bring together representatives of insurance and reinsurance associations, as well as regulatory authorities from the Southeastern Europe economies.

During the meeting, discussions are expected to revolve around the possibilities of expanding regional cooperation for risk sharing, and exchanging best practices in disaster insurance systems. The main goal is to initiate dialogue on the feasibility of creating a mechanism/network of regional cooperation among the insurance sector representatives of Southeastern Europe, and to exchange know-how and relevant experiences.

On behalf of Greece, participants will include Ms. Elina Papaspyropoulou, General Director of the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies, Ms. Evi Tsiouri, Chief Business Officer of the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies, Ms. Theodora Antonakaki, Director of the Climate Change and Sustainability Center of the Bank of Greece and Ms. Konstantina Doulavera, senior officer of the Directorate for Development Cooperation Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Secretary for Economic and Commercial Affairs).
